Artist Phan Đỗ Phúc

Phan Đỗ Phúc has enjoyed many successes worldwide as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestra musician. He was appointed the Principal Cellist of many reputable orchestras such as the Napa Valley Festival Orchestra, New York Classical Player Orchestra, Stony Brook Symphony Orchestra and Pacific Music Festival Orchestra. After finishing his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Cello Performance under the tutelage of Colin Carr at Stony Brook University, New York in 2020, Phuc returned to Vietnam and has since appeared as the Principal Cellist of the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra (VNSO) and the Sun Symphony Orchestra (SSO). He has been the soloist with the VNSO on several occasions, playing Strauss’ Don Quixote Op. 35 in August, 2020; Beethoven’s Triple Concerto Op. 56 in March, 2022 (Eneos Concert) and Dvořák’s Cello Concerto Op. 104 in August 2022 (Toyota Concert). 


Besides performance activities, Phuc is also very active in arts education projects with the desire to bring the beauty ​​of classical music to the community. In the autumn of 2020, Phuc and his colleagues’ joint project "Schubert in a Mug" (SiaM) was born, aiming to create cozy spaces where artists and audiences can share their love for classical music, especially the chamber music format, on a monthly basis. Until now, SiaM has gone through 35 volumes and has received the support and partnership of many organizations and individuals interested in the arts, such as the Goethe Institute Hanoi, the Radio and Television of Vietnam, and prestigious magazines like Tia Sang and Notesbook.


In 2022, Phuc became the first conductor of the vibrant Vietnam Youth Orchestra (VYO) and the deputy CEO of the Vietnam Youth Music Institute (VYMI); with the purpose of inspiring young people to form long-lasting relationships through music, regardless of their professions in the future.
